I also get spikes wet when watering, and haven't had any lost any - but, different climates, so I can't say positively that it isn't the cause.

It may very well have been the heat wave in this instance. Although my room temperature I don't think exceeded 94F this past week, it may have been a few degrees hotter under my lights. In fact I turned them off early yesterday for that very reason. I keep good air flow going around my Neos, so any moisture above the surface should dry out quickly, even in the high humidity.

We just had over a week of pretty fierce heat, and I have several plants in bud - was dreading that I would lose some, but all came through well (even the Masdevallia, tho it was definitely pampered). I did have some in bloom plants drop flowers or flowers wilting prematurely tho

Fortunately - the in bloom monster Neo seems to have been unaffected - it did get moved out of the west facing window it normally sits in (all plants in west facing windows, or outside getting afternoon sun, were moved)
