And I know my tsuke (most common is the crescent moon), but I still don't know how to pronounce tsuke.
T-sook? to-sook-ee? Sook?
For that matter I need a guide to pronouncing the romaji names generally.

I'm guessing and going with something closer to 'sook', with a little more emphasis by holding the tongue against the teeth for an added moment as you're pronouncing the 's'. But in reality, I have no idea!

Attachment 85122After this discussion, I did order this plant from New World Orchids. It arrived yesterday. I compared it with the mounted plant that you all helped me identify as NOT an 大波青海 Oonamiseikai "Big Blue Ocean Wave" Neofinetia. On this plant that I just got as Onamiseikai, the tsuke looks like a mountain not an ocean wave. AHHGGGG!

I disagree-- I think it's wave. Sometimes its hard to tell but it's highly unlikely Dr Glenn would sell something not labeled correctly (mistake happen, of course), but I think Oonami is highly variable by its nature. I think what you have is oonami and quite a nice one.

Thanks Ryan, it IS hard to tell sometimes. Actually both plants are pretty nice plants. If Dr. Glenn sent me a rose and told me it was a petunia, I'd tell him he was crazy, but I would believe anything he says about Neos.

It is most definitely ocean wave. When you see a plant with the actual mountain tsuke up close, you will find it easier to see the difference. Many fuukiran varieties have the ocean wave tsuke. However, ones with the mountain tsuke are a bit harder to find. Personally, if I received a plant with a mountain tsuke that was mislabeled, or what not, I would definitely keep it, even if it may be a NOID neo.

Hi Tracy, I think I have to find a Neo with a mountain tsuke. Skallima's tsuke composite suggests Sengaku-no-kawari as an example of mountain tsuke so I'm off on a Neo hunt!

Matt;
Banpo, Sengaku, and supposedly Ushiwakamaru have Yamagata tsuke.
Cheers.
