I saw that as well Matt and wondered the same thing.

FWIW, teh google brings up an old Seed Engei online catalog listing for a 2 growth Hakubotan at $1500.
HAKUBOTAN ??? - Neofinetia falcata/Japanese orchid/Samurai orchid/SEED ENGEI
Quote:
$1500
[overall]
Always noble and honored variety in all. One of most popular and high class variety.
Because variegation is very colorful, people might think this is a tiger stripe variety but is stripe variety. Best variegated Hakubotan has all white color base with green spread stripe. When leaves has 80% of white base, it would be considered as good variegation. Variegation only appear on new leaves and disappear as it gets old. This unique and beautiful variegation are not all about it. Beautiful ruby roots add a value to it.
Lately, seedling plants got big and started having nice variegation. Hard to get.
[leaves]
thick and wide, get variegation only on new leaves.
[stem /roots /tsuke]
dark mud brown stem, ruby root tips, crescent moon tsuke
[size/ comment]
two growths, healthy big plants, only one available!

That particular plant in the pic is not doing a thing to make me want it for any price for it. I would like to see a more mature version I think I'll check online to see what I can find. Will get back to you guys.

I'm likewise unimpressed. I see from an old ST posting that Hakubotan was in the top row of the 2005 Meikan chart. No idea where it's currently ranked.
The seller yonex1028 apparently sold a lot of fukiran on ebay in years past, going back to 2009. Also has listed an itty bitty Maizuru bean leaf with a starting bid of just 29.99.

I am shocked you haven't figured out who yonex1028 is yet
You have mentioned here here before. She has a plant that is extremely expensive and on your wishlist
She's also a good grower and has all kinds of very rare varieties.

And another 15 for Monday night.
Ooh, for Sunday night I like the shape of "Neofinetia falcata/cute bean leaf/good presentatin(japaneseorchid)-BENI-MUSOU-紅無双". Looks like just under an inch leafspan. I think I may have to bid on it.
Also like the SEIOU-NISHIKI for Monday and maybe the Gojo-Fukurin (Sunday).
That HIGASHIDEMIYAKO looks okay too.
I really need to concentrate on how I'm going to organize a cool winter spot for everything I already have, rather than continuing to add more.

Won the bid on the Beni-Musou bean leaf and I see japaneseorchids has just now added 14 plants for Wed nite (besides the 15 already listed for Monday).
I'm pretty sure I want the Seiou-Nishiki on Monday's list. It's only one growth, but I like it better than the 2 growth buy it now one that orchids_limited has up.
Now to go look at the Wednesday list and hope I don't see anything I must have.
Anyone else here scoop up plants tonight (I know Matt got at least one)?

I see this Hakubotan did indeed sell at that price (500) with a single bid.
