Watching is just that, right? Doesn't commit me to anything...that is a good idea. I'll do that and turn in after the news. So, Jayfar, not only are you a Neonut but a certifiable techie?
eBay Watch? I like that!

I hate tech, but it's a living and I'm good enough at a few aspects to hold on to my job. In troubleshooting, I have a knack for spotting the obvious things that the folks in network operations have a knack for not noticing. Like last week a data center customer reported one of their 2 ethernet circuits was periodically dropping. Our network operations center thought maybe the cable was bad. I thought not. Looked at our aggregation router and saw no errors on the interface, but did see the occasional interface down and up events in the router log. Looked closer at the time stamps. In all but 2 instances the duration between when the interface went down and came back up was just over 3 minutes and 20 seconds. From that consistency and the lack of CRC errors and such, I correctly concluded that the customer's ethernet switch was periodically crashing and rebooting itself.
Been working for the same company (or rather it and its predecessors thru 4 mergers) for 13 years now. Always 3rd shift; it pays a differential and no one covets your job when you work 3rd).
Back to topic: With the notable exception of those over-bid furan weeds and a Suraga-Fukurin, the prices on a sampling I watched didn't get too crazy. Rough notes follow:
sets of Neofinetia falcata/fragrant/in flower(japaneseorchid-FURAN 11 bids $86 (started at 15)
SURUGA-FUKURIN 2 growths, in spike 14 bids $90.47 (started 24.99)
KOUUNKAKU single growth in spike 1 bid 29.99
GOJO-FUKURIN 3 growth, 2 babies, in-spike 1 bid 39.99
KIRINMARU 1 growth 6 bids 32.05 (started 12.99)
HOKAGE 3 growths 1 bid 65 (started 65)
SHUTENNOU single growth, 1 baby in spike 5 bids 26 (started 12)
Neofinetiafalcata/dark yellow flower/fragrant/in flower(japaneseorchid-KIBANA 2 growths, 1 baby NO BIDS (started at 55)
Edited to add: AOJIKU-FUGAKU went for 80.01 on 3 bids, but that has 9 growths and is in spike (started at 65).

The furan I got from them at a show was $10. It was one fan + 2 or 3 babies IIRC. I screwed up early on and is no more.

A lot of the plants went way higher than what they're worth, to my eyes. Furan and Suruga, for sure. I'm actually surprised someone paid $65 for that Hokage. It didn't look very good, lol. It had little to no white variegation.

Yep, I need a Hokage and don't mind paying, but I passed on that one and another one recently. I do have one on the way from Orchids Ltd, that I hope will be decent. The odds are pretty good that it will be I think.

I have paid around that price for a Suruga, and it was NOT via eBay. I really think that depending on who you're buying plants from, you will pay for a better quality plant sometimes, whether it be better variegation, flowers, etc. I could have easily gotten the same size plant for loads less, oh well!

Thank you! I'll change that to "Ya-kyuu". I got Basubaru from growing up with kids, who spoke "Nipglish" sort of like "Spanglish". Consequently I used to say Arrigato You until someone told me the correct way to say thank you. LOL!! Ya-kyuu! I like that you also included the kanji. Domo Arrigato AnonYMouse.

It is a bit ridiculous indeed to see prices go so high for these plants. Last summer was much better to get Neos on ebay!
