Oh, how I wish I could bid for Neo's on eBay, but alas they won't ship to South Africa. Its the same with buying Neo's, none of the vendors are willing to send to send down to South Africa. I'm so envious at the ease that you guys can get your hands on those little gems!!

Hi Craig! Thank you for providing your point of view. I forget that there are parts of the world that don't seem to have access like we have in North America or Europe to orchids. Glenn Lehr, New World Orchds, shared with me that he can only ship outside of the USA to Canada and Europe. And that is a very complicated process. He rattled off CITES, SEPEC, and a whole lot of other abbreviations. I can imagine how difficult it would be to do all the paperwork to get to Africa not to mention the travel time! There have been some Europeans, such as Driese who have indicated that even though he is European, the Neofinetia he gets is even more expensive as his purchase price covers all the fees and paperwork to get his plant to Belgium.

Craig-- if you ever find you're traveling to the US, perhaps you can work it ahead of time to be able to hand carry plants home. You'd still need all the certs and permits but it would be possible.

Contrary to Matt, I'm often reminded of the orchid glut in other parts of the world. I have many friends around the world who I'd LOVE to send some plants to but I know it'll never happen because of eco and gov reasons.

Oddly enough, many South African plants are our houseplants here in the US...from Jades to other succulents and cacti, SA has contributed a load of beautiful plants to US households.

Edit to say that there are loads of people on here who may be able to help you if you do travel to the US--- trick is finding a willing participant.

Craig, the 21st World Orchid Conference (WOC) will be in Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa in September 10-14, 2014. Home Lucky you!

It's probably a good bet Seed-Engei will be there as well as many other orchid vendors. Get there the first day and bring plenty of cash! Hear the last day is also a good day to find bargains.

Neofinetia falcata Sengaku-kawari 尖岳 from bill-joyce looks interesting. I hadn't seen this one before. It looks really small.

A local sushi place named Tsuki Sushi recently caught my eye, but then I realized that's a different spelling (versus tsuke).

Tsuki - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
Tsuki
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Japanese name
Kanji: 突き
Hiragana: つき

Tsuki (突き?), is the Japanese word for "thrust", coming from the verb tsuku (突く?), meaning "to thrust". It sounds the same as the Japanese word for "moon"/"month" tsuki (月?).
Tsuke - Wikipédia
[French wikipedia translated from french]
Quote:
The Tsuke (ツケ) is a term Japanese designating a specific shot in a game of go . This time is to put a stone in direct contact with an opponent's stone.

Tsuki also means moon. Tsuke means attach.
