Too funny. Now the $1000 Houmeiden looks like a steal at $75.

Bob, you have to start thinking of getting a night job in order to pay for your Fuukrian addiction now

The fact that I'm leaving for college in a year helps me not buy very many, but if I didn't have homework I would do just that!!

I think part of the problem may be a language barrier. Also, I don't think it's usually Satomi herself doing the packing and shipping; I think her sister takes care of that.

Satomi replied back, but I don't think I adequately communicated that the spike was broken off from the plant (see bolded text below).

Dear japaneseorchids,

Unfortunately this wasn't too well packed. I was very careful unpacking it. Inside the newspaper wrapping the moss ball was most of the way out of the pot and I found the little three-quarter inch piece of spike among the loose bits of moss. Other sellers typically use sticks and cotton around the plant, inside the inner wrappings, to keep it from shifting in transit.

Dear jayfar2011,

Hi, I am very sorry to hear that. Was plant and spike were ok? I will let them know to packaging very carefully. Thank you for your advise. Sincerely Satomi

But you bought them in person from Satomi and her dad at the last SEPOS show. Much better than ordering by mail...

OMG! New World Orchids listed five very lovely Neofinetia. The Kyokushou with 5 spikes is a really beautiful and healthy plant. I actually saw it this past Saturday 09/14 when I visited NWO. The other plants are also very healthy. I would buy the Unkai too. Actually I would buy them all but then I'd have to sell some more investments to fund this addiction! Oh Lord, when will this end?????

Thanks for the heads up. Most in-spike too. I wonder if these will go for much above their starting prices. I seem to recall the 2 sets he put up before went for pretty close to starting bid. Must resist temptation! Well I put 'em all on my watch list just for curiosity's sake.

Go ahead Matt; sell a few shares of IBM. Just look at it as shifting your investments.

We reached a satisfactory resolution. I had the option of a discount or replace the plant with a smaller one in-spike at a much lower cost. I decided to just keep this Manjushage and look forward to next year's blooms. After all, patience is a requisite virtue for a Neo grower, right?

Jayfar, shifting investments around to cover the cost of purchasing more Neofinetia is NOT prudent -- but when I look at Dr Glenn Lehr and his success with Neofinetia I can't help but think, irrationally I might add, how completely satisfying it would be to spend my days puttering around orchids.

There are days I go through when I have contemplated telling my client(s): "You know what? I really do not care if you migrate your IT to whatever greatest and latest technology you saw demonstrated at your most recent industry convention. You tell me what you want, I'll implement, I'll bill you one off charges for going outside of your delivery contract, and after every platform collapses around you, and I have to re-IPL your environment back to where you started, I'll bill you again! END of discussion."

Hmmm, that felt good to write that! I hope you find somewhere in your accounts extra $$ to buy an NWO plant or two.
