OMG! New World Orchids listed five very lovely Neofinetia. The Kyokushou with 5 spikes is a really beautiful and healthy plant. I actually saw it this past Saturday 09/14 when I visited NWO. The other plants are also very healthy. I would buy the Unkai too. Actually I would buy them all but then I'd have to sell some more investments to fund this addiction! Oh Lord, when will this end?????

Thanks for the heads up. Most in-spike too. I wonder if these will go for much above their starting prices. I seem to recall the 2 sets he put up before went for pretty close to starting bid. Must resist temptation! Well I put 'em all on my watch list just for curiosity's sake.
Go ahead Matt; sell a few shares of IBM. Just look at it as shifting your investments.

Satomi replied back, but I don't think I adequately communicated that the spike was broken off from the plant.

We reached a satisfactory resolution. I had the option of a discount or replace the plant with a smaller one in-spike at a much lower cost. I decided to just keep this Manjushage and look forward to next year's blooms. After all, patience is a requisite virtue for a Neo grower, right?

Surprisingly the auction ended on the 5-spiker (275 starting price) with no bids. The 2 spike Kyokushou (175) ends in 20 minutes - no bids yet. The Tosamidori went for 132.50 (2.50 above starting bid). I actually gave serious thought to jumping on that one.
Hanagoroma at 95 has one bid, ending in 35 minutes and the Unkai (230), no bids, ends in about 50 mins.
Must. Stay. Strong. I will not bid.

Another Kyokushou, but this is the younger brother , so to speak, of our other listing. This plant has all the wing span of its elder brother, with long, upturned leaves and tiger markings, but it is a more modest 2 growths with one baby. The tsuke and undersides of the leaves have beautiful purple color that fades into lovely purple spots farther out on the leaves. In addition, there are two spikes coming on, so you should see flowers from the first spike in a few weeks and, together with the second spike, you could have flowers for at least a month!
With its extensive roots, this is a vigorous grower, so you can expect this guy to put on some size in the coming year!

Beautiful plant and worth every penny. Arrived in perfect condition with both spikes intact.
Thanks Kristen/Biochick!
Interesting how they finish the mound; the green stripes in the pics (see ebay link above) is actually a special string made to look like a green moss strand. I wonder if that's available in the US or imported special by NW.
I had the plant sent Express Mail, which is worth the cost for me for one simple reason: Priority Mail is usually delivered in the late afternoon here, a time at which I am sleeping ahead of working night shift; Express, on the other hand, is always delivered before noon.

Jayfar, shifting investments around to cover the cost of purchasing more Neofinetia is NOT prudent -- but when I look at Dr Glenn Lehr and his success with Neofinetia I can't help but think, irrationally I might add, how completely satisfying it would be to spend my days puttering around orchids.
There are days I go through when I have contemplated telling my client(s): "You know what? I really do not care if you migrate your IT to whatever greatest and latest technology you saw demonstrated at your most recent industry convention. You tell me what you want, I'll implement, I'll bill you one off charges for going outside of your delivery contract, and after every platform collapses around you, and I have to re-IPL your environment back to where you started, I'll bill you again! END of discussion."
Hmmm, that felt good to write that! I hope you find somewhere in your accounts extra $$ to buy an NWO plant or two.

I've heard it said that the way to end up with $1 million in the orchid biz is to start with $2 million.

Its not so irrational, Matt. I often find myself drawn to these wonderful things because of their resiliency and beauty. As a critical care nurse, I pour my heart and soul into sick folks and, far too often, they die on me.
I have yet to lose a single orchid, but it doesn't seem to matter so much if they did. I could see myself puttering around them happily, with nothing else.

You know Jerry Fisher (Jason's Dad) did just that. He was working a summer job at a nursery while in college and decided that he wanted to spend his life around beautiful flowers, we know the rest of the story. I am not saying to dump you career but certainly to enjoy this hobby to the fullest.
