The vendors never guaranty the spike will not die in the box due to weather or delays in shipping, but if it is broken it is because the plant was not secure enough in the parcel due to lack of wrapping. you paid extra for fast shipping on top of that!
You should email SE about that !
Point well taken. I did write back using an ebay message. Since they are going to be away for a week beginning tomorrow I don't know that I'll hear back right away, but their policy does allow damaged plants to be returned within 14 days (buyer pays return shipping though).

Thanks. I recall that your Manjushage had a rough ride as well.

The kicker is that I wasn't inclined to buy any more plants until next spring, even though Manjushage was on my wish list. I'm not attracted to the odd flower forms other than that one. The major factor that pushed me to bid was the idea of having something potentially blooming at the end of the season. At least my not-so-variegated Hokage is still holding its two flowers.

All in all, I'm still a happy camper with all the nice fukiran I've accumulated in a relatively short time. And after all, it is mostly about the foliage.

Yup & I never rec'd a response from my email regarding that order. Not good business practice....that's why I was pleased to see there was no longer a monopoly on eBay sales. I am so sorry about your Neo though; that smarts.

I think part of the problem may be a language barrier. Also, I don't think it's usually Satomi herself doing the packing and shipping; I think her sister takes care of that.

Satomi replied back, but I don't think I adequately communicated that the spike was broken off from the plant (see bolded text below).

Dear japaneseorchids,

Unfortunately this wasn't too well packed. I was very careful unpacking it. Inside the newspaper wrapping the moss ball was most of the way out of the pot and I found the little three-quarter inch piece of spike among the loose bits of moss. Other sellers typically use sticks and cotton around the plant, inside the inner wrappings, to keep it from shifting in transit.

Dear jayfar2011,

Hi, I am very sorry to hear that. Was plant and spike were ok? I will let them know to packaging very carefully. Thank you for your advise. Sincerely Satomi

Will one of you intrepid Neonuts check out eBay? Orchids Limited has listed several plants for $1000.00! Can this be right?

Hmm, odd. Or maybe I'm just not so astute at assessing value yet. They have a 13-growth Kinkounishiki on their regular website for 750 and a 1-growth Suruga Fukurin for 50. I've got a pretty darn nice 2-growth Suruga Fukurin in front of me here that cost me less than either.

Maybe someone misplaced the decimal point on all 4 of these?

Can anyone tell me which of the following bean leafs would be more 'desireable' based on traits? And also what is the difference between them? Thanks!

Tamakongou, Yodo-no-matsu, Kasen

Jayfar, I think it is the misplaced dot syndrome too. I do not have any of these $1000 plants but at this price, they would be just another expensive plant I would love to own but I have to stop spending money just because its a Neofinetia! LOL.

I sent them a question about this via ebay:

Quote:
Is the 1,000 price correct for this and 3 other Neo's you listed today? Several of us discussing Neos on orchidboard.com were curious whether this might be a misplaced decimal point.

Certainly I'm aware that many Neos go for several thousand, but I'm trying to understand what about these specific listed plants make them so valuable.

Too funny. Now the $1000 Houmeiden looks like a steal at $75.
