Hi Red Orchid, once these little seedlings mature into larger seedlings, I'll pot a couple of them together and send it to you. PM me with your address and I'll be glad to send them to you. BUT you have to promise to make a NeoPot with a baseball motif AND post a picture. Deal?

Just browsing again on eBay....YIKES! Seed Engei has a dozen plants up for bid. The auction ends July 1, 2013.

Yep, and mostly in spike, buds or bloom. I'm sitting this one out, maybe... Unless I go for that Setsuzan that ends at 4:17AM EDT. That's during my workshift at a time of day when I have nothing better to do than spend my hardly-earned money.

Oh, and another ebayer has a Neofinetia richardsiana. [Funny thing is this vendor, for most of the other Neos he sells, borrows wording for his descriptions verbatim from Seed Engei's descriptions for similar plants.]

I'm actually more tempted by the stuff added to Seed Engei's regular site the other day and I'm trying to resist pulling the trigger on my current Orchids Ltd. wish list.

Question to all folks who have purchased from New World Orchids: are they accepting orders? I sent them an email asking to purchase plants on Thursday, June 27th and I haven't received any acknowledgement. I have only bought once from them last month and I was impressed by the turn around time from first contact to plants in my home.

This potential order is what is keeping me away from eBay! ( how's that for keeping on topic?)

Besides being from China, I wonder if there is any other difference? I can barely pronounce the more elaborate Japanese names, imagine having to learn Chinese names too! I can see a future posting from Jayfar: "My Neofinetia Richardsiana Chowmein is in bloom".

Hehehe! I think the biggest diff is a shorter spur on the blooms and, I think, a bit of reddish coloring on some of the foliage.

And, maybe it's just because they're not as widely cultivated as the Neo falcata, but I haven't read anything about there being various morphs and mutations of the richardsiana. Is richardsiana just more stable genetically? I don't know. Or are there so many forms of falcata simply because the one in a million mutated plant is divided and cloned by growers, while in nature most mutations essentially fade from existence, since most, except the tiger leafs, don't breed true even from selfing (if I understand correctly).

I had been thinking that there must be an inherent, unusual instability in the genetics of falcata, but the more I think about it, the more it makes sense that human selection and propagation of mutations may be the biggest factor in there being so many variants.

This sounds like a good topic for its own thread.

I know there was severe flooding the area, so perhaps that's delaying Dr. Lehr's prompt reply. Give him a call.
