It is a beautiful Fugaku. Quay San posted pictures of it on his Fukiran collection thread. I wonder what makes your Fugaku a Hou? Is it the extreme lack of green?

For those fans of Neofinetia falcata and its hybrids, I wanted to let you know I purchased a Luicentrum Red Seagull X Neofinetia falcata on EBay about a month ago. I've had very good overall success with my buys from that site (individual sellers/growers tend to back their products up and will refund if you get a bad shipment). When watering yesterday, I noticed this on the hybrid I mentioned I just bought (see photo). I thought that was very encouraging considering the short time I've had it. I find that those particular hybrids do well on Louisiana hardwoods. For those who are not sure about what they'll get on eBay, I encourage them to try it (of course, check the sellers feedback/ask ANY questions you might have, no matter how silly you think they might be - and I asked plenty of silly ones, believe me!)

The SEPOS Fugaku acquired by Quay is a very exceptional standard Fugaku (富嶽), assuming it is labeled correctly, but there are similarities between its variegation and the Fugaku-Hou (富嶽宝) from ebay. Of course we know there's a lot of variance between individual Fugaku generally. The one I bought a year ago has very subdued variegation.

The description for the ebay Fugaku-Hou:

This variety came out from seedling of FUGAKU and produce spread stripe, Variegation will be very similar to FUGAKU.But FUGAKU-HOU has more stripes and more curvy leaf shape than regular FUGAKU. It's so beautiful!!!

Fugaku has spread striped variegation called Chiri-fu*. It gives us soft image because this stripe looks vaguer than normal stripe. Wide-Hime-ba* is very appreciable to see. *chiri-fu (spread stripe pattern) * Hime-ba ( Curvy leaf shape)

Looking at the kanji, the suffix 宝 (treasure; wealth; valuables) seems almost redundant to the 富(wealth; enrich; abundant).

嶽 is peak and 富嶽 (fugaku) is listed as an alternative name for Mt. Fuji.

It looks like either new root or new growth. Or both.

You were probably bumping up against automatic bidding toward my max bid. Usually, I don't bid at all until the last 4 to 6 seconds and enter a ridiculously high max bid with no intention of actually seeing the bidding approach my max. By bidding as late as possible I avoid stirring up interest. Last night I broke with that pattern and bid with over a minute still remaining.
