Quay--did you go to the grocery store yesterday? Around here, when bad weather is forecast, people go to the store and buy up all the bread and milk and other basic food stuffs. It is unreal!

Nope, we aren't afraid of the weather. People do that here though, it's ridiculous.

We make sure we always have basic supplies on hand because we love high in altitude and in the country in Colorado. Our bread and eggs and milk come in separate ingredients! Well except the eggs...those kinda half to come whole. I love getting snowed in. Fresh baked bread and other hearty meals. But then again I got on this homesteading kick a while back...it's fun!

I don't mind being snowed in, as long as you have good company!

As I mentioned previously, I'll probably bid late on the Suikaden (Tuesday), to replace the one the mouse nibbled on.

And I see the Fuukiden went to the first of two bidders for 815. Surprisingly that was the only plant of the 4 listed that got any bids.
I was distracted by an emergency major project* yesterday and didn't get get around to bidding on the Suikaden.
*Frozen hot and cold water pipes in my third floor apartment - bah! Took me all day to unfreeze them. The ultimate solution involved hooking a hose and funnel to the shower pipe and pouring boiling water with almost a whole container of salt down the pipe. Apparently the pipes to the shower are the ones all my other pipes branch off from; the pipes up to the shower run close to an exterior wall in a courtyard that is never lit by the sun. Lesson learned: when forecast calls for temps dropping below 20, leave water running at a trickle through the night.
Landlord had contacted 2 plumbers and both said that, other than waiting for a thaw, the only quick fix would involve breaking through the walls in the 2 downstairs apartments.

I probably should have paid extra for heat packs, but I'm sure they'll hold up okay without.

To the USPS carrier, let me say this about that: LIAR, LIAR, PANTS ON FIRE! I was home and awake; the door buzzer was not buzzed and no notice was left. I did see a USPS truck go past without stopping and then stop on the next block at around the time they claimed to have left a notice.
Ironically, I almost crossed paths with the regular USPS package carrier this morning. When I came out of the supermarket up the street, I saw him in his truck pulling out from the street in front the store. No, I didn't miss delivery while I was at the store; my gf was home at the time and there was no delivery attempt then either.
I've filled out the web form for redelivery, so I'll hopefully receive my dead plants tomorrow to give them a proper burial (and/or to put in a claim for the $50 insured value). Outside temps were in low 20s all day.

No notice was left, despite tracking indication that it was. I was home and can guarantee that carrier DID NOT ATTEMPT DELIVERY. Saw USPS truck drive by without stopping at around the time notice was claimed to have been left. Perishable live plants.

I wish satomi would offer fedex. I'd be willing to pay extra. Here's to hoping your neos will enjoy a cool sleep and bloom splendidly come spring!

Ditto. I use fedex for any vendors that offer it. I redirect my incoming fedex shipments to a fedex center that is a 10 minute bus ride away and pick up shipments there first thing in the morning, rather than having them bumping around on a truck all day.
Yeah, hopefully I'll be lucky and they'll just have a good jumpstart for their cold winter rest.

I have Satomi put the plants on hold at the post office. Just make sure that you get tracking on them.
