You two are so sweet! I never know if it is OK for me to express an interest on a particular plant, and my PI skills are not good enough to know who is bidding against me!

Joy, I think it is okay to inquire about any of these plants, as sometimes these plants are not worth their listing or it may be a really good deal. There is a Neofinetia "Morada" that is priced at $75.00. It has five growths. It was up for auction back in the summer time, but I think it was repotted. It looks better now.
I cannot fault any vendor for re-auctioning their plants that did not get any bids the first time around. New World Orchids did that on several plants. I think Seed Engei does that too. Orchids Limited, they seem to just have Buy It Now listings, but a couple of weeks ago, they did have a couple of plants that were up for auction. I don't remember if anyone bid on those plants.
I really should donate money to Orchid Board as it has proved to be invaluable in determining if a plant I'm interested in is worth buying. Countless times, my desire to purchase these Neos has been tempered by some observation made right here on this long thread.

is it just me, or is the shunkyuden from japaneseorchids priced quite inexpensive ? ... ok it doesn't have any bid on it yet, but still...

Just out of curiosity, for those of you that live in colder climates... how do the "heat packs" the ebay sellers offer work out for you?
Do you take them up on that, or do you just wait until spring to order more plants? I've never mail ordered an orchid before so I have no idea if that's a risk I would take, unless it was a plant that I had my heart set on.

I've used them before. They work great if the seller insulates and packs them properly. With Neofinetias I wouldn't worry too much, they are pretty strong against cold, especially for short periods. |

Excellent! Thanks! I have a couple picked out that I want, but I'm still doing research and want to make sure I choose a plant that I won't kill the first week I have it... and that I will still love in a few years. |

Dries,
I have bought this plant for around this price on previous auctions. In fact, I have one plant with 4 growths, that I bought for $28 and another plant with 2 growths for $18.00. So I think this is within that price range. I have a sense that you probably think this is inexpensive since by the time it lands in your part of the world it will be well over $50!!! Yes?
I really wish I can send you some of my duplicate plants and not get in trouble with CITES and other agricultural rules that govern exporting to Eurozone. |

I've never gotten heat packs with orchids, but other plants and they surprisingly last a few days. I usually do my plant buying Spring through Fall, so I don't have to worry about that. I do know they help, but if its extremely cold in your area, I'd just wait until next year. |

We're expecting 70's tomorrow then a cold blast is coming from the Midwest. I am in Virginia it has been a mild fall. |
