I know that many vendors offer heat packs, but is there a point in time where any orchid vendor stops selling plants to folks like me who have cold winter days?

Matt I wondered the same thing about vendors winterizing their Neos thanks for asking the question. As you know I got that great set up with lights as a Bday present in Sept & the Neos just love it. The lights dry out the moss to the bone quickly so I find myself giving them little shots of water like twice a week. Yet, they are still acting like it is Spring sending out new roots and leaves. I wonder how others who grow with lights winterize.

This RainNoHikari has the most contrasted variegation I have seen up for sale in a long time, usually they are way less strong, you did good!

It isn't always easy. I grow under lights, even though I have a large solar room. I do this because of my tremendous lack of humidity in the highlands of this State of mine.
The only thing you can really do is try to get those temps lower at night in conjunction with a shorter photo period. My lights heat up my grow room to 80+ in the day but the night temp, which during the longer photo period would bottom at about 76, now bottoms at 68. This is the result of 1) house temps changing with the season and 2) 1.5-2 hours less of a photo period.
Mine will still grow a bit, but I don't have a full flush of growth like I'd expect when turning the lights on longer come late winter.
I doubt this helps, but I've been growing phals and neos under these conditions for several years and I get good flowering every year. My neos will rebloom late summer, too, if I move them outside. However, deer like to eat neos.
Edit to say that I have a small space heater in my grow room, too-- I have this set at the min temperature I'm willing to accept because it would get colder than 68 if I let it.

Red, I know people who live in apartments and grow Neos under lights. They don't give them different treatment during the winter. The Neos bloom twice a year: a big flowering in the spring and then a smaller one in the fall.

Wonderful wonderful thank you so much Andrienne you have put my mind at peace. I have been trying to find a way to give them their winter rest. I had actually reached the decision that I didn't really care about the flowering I love them for the incredible beauty of the leaves. I only have about two or so flowering varieties and was willing to just let them forgo flowering.

Absolutely great info Ryan...this will help. You have put a lot of work into making a your environment comfortable for your orchids. Darn deer are here as well!

In addition to the 15 listed for Sunday evening, japaneseorchids has added 15 for Monday night.
Looking....
Also, besides their buy-it-now selections, orchids_limited has 2 auction plants for this evening (Saturday), a Kitengu and a Risshiden.

I'll look but I'm mostly waiting for the Expo in February.

I actually don't have a driving need to acquire more. I still have a couple traits on my list but I'll get them when I see a particular plant I like. I have two whose tags I don't believe but I ended up liking them more. I'll probably never have a tiger nor a "Kin-anything".

Acquiring Neofinetias Via EBay
I really don't need anymore Neofinetia. So I'm on eBay, looking at orchids_limited two auctions. I don't have either plant, someone already bid on the Neofinetia falcata 'Kitengu' 黄天狗 - 3 growth and I thought, that is a good price for a healthy looking plant, plus I really like its English name: "yellow long nosed goblin", so I bid on it. I'm outbid. I realized that one of the things that drive me to distraction is seeing red and the word "outbid". I bid a couple more times and still got outbid.
My opponent wants this plant, and I really don't want to make that person pay anymore for this plant. So I quit. There is a lot of psychology involved in the appearance of the eBay website. Not only do they employ strong visual stimulation but you get dings and email messages. And then there is the countdown function, beating the clock...no wonder people get carried away on bidding. I'm one of them, it seems. LOL
