You become inspired when making them. It's hard to describe but you begin making pots for specific plants and they mesh suddenly and the presentation is incredible.

Well said Ryan! We put so much of ourselves into growing these orchids and now the pots are made with the same passion. I love trying to improve them and even love the flaws. Again....thank you.

Leslie, et al, I have not seen Ryan/pilot on this board lately, but here is a tutorial that Ryan put together a year ago. There were three threads on this matter. Here is the second thread.
Looking back at the beginning of this thread, Ryan really did put a lot of effort in his pot making. Impressive!

Just a word to the wise from your friendly, local ceramic engineer - you should fire any clay body only once. All of those materials have inherent thermal expansions, which is why it is important to slowly cool it after firing. Repeated thermal cycling creates microcracks, weakening the structure, not strengthening it.

This tutorial is really helpful. Just one question, are we baking the clay in the kitchen oven? Of so, what do one use to stand the clay on in the oven? An aluminum coated metal tray?
