The link you posted Jayfar to the Las Vegas OS newsletter is working. Thank you. I have downloaded this PDF and have it in my documentation file. It is the article in Orchid Digest, July, August, September 2004; Vol.68(3), verbatim. The Orchid Digest is in color and makes the various drawings of variegation much easier to read.

Right, I updated the link at the beginning of the thread too. The pdf was apparently of a poor photocopy. There are a couple pages apparently missing from the pdf - are those pages actual content or were they just ads?

Now that I'm looking and comparing the PDF with the article, the missing pages are:

Page 130. Includes a colorful map of Japan showing the regions or prefects of Japan where certain Neofinetia were first found. It includes an ancient painting of a potted Neofinetia. Two panels diagraming the different leaf shapes and leaf surfaces/texture, such as "rasp".

Page 132. This is an important missing page discussing different flower shapes, color, and fragrance. If you notice that the PDF page that follows the striped leaves of Neofinetia, the next paragraph starts with the word "honey" in the missing page of the PDF file. This is in reference to how the scent of Neofinetia can be described as "...faint".

Page 135. More pictures of Neofinetia.

If you can acquire the real article, you'll get a better version than what is presented in the PDF. But the PDF version is better than nothing. However, I am concerned that the Las Vegas orchid society is breaking copyright rules. There is no disclaimer or notification of granted permissions to reprint the article.

Thanks.

Actually, while it's not a formal reprint permission notice, the newsletter editor does state on the first page of the newsletter that they had permission from OD. Whether that permission extends to reproducing it on the web might be another matter. And they probably should have included an Orchid Digest copyright notice in the reprint.
