Thank you all for the nice comments.

The non-pot pots are tea cups (smaller one may be a sake cup, only holds a couple of ounces) with holes drilled in them (see Drill bits thread). I get them and various bowls, saucers and condiment plates at Asian stores for pretty cheap. I've recently been eyeing individual-serving cast iron pots for when I have a specimen sized plant (erm, maybe just use them as cache pots).

That particular Amami is really vigorous, more than any other orchid I have. There are some roots that are turning around the inside of the cup (but the center is hollow-from the previous potting method?).

The fabric is from Thailand or Burma. My sister brings me textiles from her travels. Most people just get t-shirts.

ETA: I grow them on NE window sills in the SF bay area.

Thanks! But have you seen Sonya's (WhiteRabbit) monster? She has a ginormous one. Pilot has a huge one, too. This is tiny in comparison.

I love the bowl on that beni-kaede one! It reminds me of the nice round celadon bowl I drink my tea out of. Drilling holes in nifty pottery is a great idea. I'm sticking with transparent containers for now though, so I can see what I'm doing.

I have one neostylis, myself-- can't wait till it blooms again, the fragrance is wonderful! I'll probably start collecting more like it soon.

What a great collection! I love your idea for growing pots! I will never pass those bowls again without imagining how they'd look with an orchid.... The fancy chopstick holders are nice to put in the plant pots for decoration.
I grow these in boring net pots and mini vanda baskets and hang them so I don't miss them when watering.

Thanks Rose and Leaf!

I love pottery. I think the plants should be dressed up in them whenever I find the right size and look (even if they are cheap pots).
