I had an alarmingly aggressive mite out break this past December. I nearly lost a beloved corona Phal but thankfully they makes stuff like tetrasan which stopped them in their tiny gross tracks. My Neos seemed to be completely unaffected but the outbreak.

Good to know. I haven't had much trouble with mites lately but I had to treat many of my non-orchids for heavy scale infestation (granular systemic...RIP). The orchids have been pretty clean.

Scale...yuck. I have scale on my citrus and no not how to get rid of them without making the fruit inedible.

I use the isopropyl alcohol plan for the Meyers Lemon and other indoor fruit trees and have to swab trunk, leaf stems, and branches...a pain. I check every two weeks to see if the scale has returned. I will probably buy lady bugs this spring. Just recently read, though, that (neem?) oil does a nice job of snuffing scale. That could probably be used in the home and won't hurt the fruit. I won't be able to use my bay, cinnamon, tea, or allspice leaves for a year as they were treated with the systemic. I might ask at the garden center to see if they have some neem oil for next time. Every leaf??? So spraying won't just do the trick? Man that's time intensive. And lady bugs will eat them???? I'd totally dig letting a gaggle of lady bugs eat them up, plus they're so pretty. I do have neem oil and while people swear by it I've had very few successful results. I'm certainly willing to try, though. Neem oil it is.

Thanks Adrienne! I have to admit, I hope I do well by this guy because if I do I'd like to get more. My big bunch of neos is on steroids... Suddenly it has ten or so spikes in various stages of growth and a flush of blooms. I think I found my new orchid obsession.

I wasn't certain if it was neem oil or a different one. If neem oil hasn't worked in the past, it isn't the right one. I should probably look for that site again or ask at a garden center. I was researching camelias and scale and halfway through reading, decided just to use the systemic (It isn't as if I was actually going to use scale-covered tea and spice leaves).
I have never had much problem with scale...just the bay laurel and going over it twice usually eliminated the problem. Now I need to find something safe for indoor use on fruiting trees that is actually effective.
