Default Uh oh........ Temptation is in the air!

I've just found out that my favorite all time little mini orchids, Neos, are readily available in Toronto. Lots of varieties too!

I think this is going to spell trouble

On a separate note.... When I had these before I grew them on a moss ball. Lately I've been thinking that one day I want a living wall (full of orchids!) Would Neos work?

I grow my Neos (and their relatives) in teak baskets in bark/charcoal/sphag mixture or on cork mounts. They seem to do fine. So I would think you could put them a wall arrangement without a problem. Just my opinion, of course. Go for it and let us know how it goes.

Well the living wall won't be for a while. But I figure it'll be expensive to populate all at once. So the plan is to start collecting and growing so that it won't be such a monumental task when we get a house and I can start on it.

I have a feeling it'll be a big enough project without having anything to populate it as well! So at least I can start doing my research and get plants that will suit being hung.

They were recently moved to the vanda family.

Can I suggest a wall-o-mounts instead? It would be easier to manage each plant on its own mount than plants on a single mount.

With individual mounted orchids, you can start your wall now!

I'm basing this idea off an installation I've seen in a hotel in downtown Toronto. Basically it's a lot of individual epiphytes (there may be some other things on there some how) on a big mesh with a waterfall irrigation sort of thing. I'm pretty sure the plants aren't all permenently attached. But I would have to go back and look again.

I've seen pictures of these. Google "vertical gardens" to get more ideas. I too have been toying with the idea, but that would be far in my future!
