Default Struggling with mini Beanies

I can't figure out why I'm having such trouble growing mini Beanies in moss. When I treat the the same as all my other Neos, they dry up and die on me. When I pay closer attention to them and water more frequently, I lose them to rot. This is really getting frustrating!

I might have to switch to bark with them.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.
Jim

Orchids that I have this issue with generally like to dry out but still have very high humidity. You might not have as much of an issue If you can increase the humidity. Just a thought.

I have a Mameba Nishiki, a beanleaf in a mini plastic vanda basket with small lava rock. It seems very happy. I can water often as it dries quickly. I find this to be a good way to grow neos.

I actually have three of the Mameba Nishiki as there were multiples in the pot. I also grow Awa Har Beni, a small needle leaf (2 of these), Benisuzume, and an unnamed common-type. These all do well in net pots/lava rock. Hope this helps.

In my experience, they should be allowed to dry out when in moss. You definitely don't want to water them again when still moist. What's your light level at? I've grown mine at various levels of humidity and they seem pretty resilient to those changes.

Jim, I am in the same boat... I lost many of my minis this summer from black rot.
The ones I managed to keep alive are in the smallest net pots ( they dry fast so I water more often), I don't put them in regular Neo pots because they stay wet too long. I have had great success with orchiata bark + perlite for my regular Neos, so I think I will move the bean leaves in bark next spring too!

I also find that bean leaves don't like being sprayed ( I tend to spray all my plants because of low humidity in my apartment) , while the regular neos have no trouble with daily spray... Go figure !
