It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.
Well, the title pretty much says it all. This year was slated to be THE year. Every Neo I had was in bud. I was so excited. But with the heat, everything blasted. Either they were severely crippled, or I lost all the flowers except the richardsiana that bloomed early. (Heavy Sigh.) The colours in my Benisuzume, Shuttenou, and Shojyo flowers stalks were looking beautiful.
Oh well. Better luck next year.
Cheers.
Jim

Peppers are the same way. After a point the heat messes them up.
Think about a "fog" cooling system. You can slap the temperature down considerably.

Sorry to hear the news as well. My orchids,
made this a growing year, instead. The only winner was my podangis whose blossoms survived heat and hail unscathed. Better luck next year.

Hi Jim, I was afraid that you lost the plants. I lost several this summer and all the crosses I've tried to make didn't take.
There's always next year.
P.S. At least yours spiked - mine just sat there...

Aw Jim I'm sorry. But hey, aren't you the one I owe a schilleriana Keiki to? I think it's ready if you're ready to accept it!?

That's too bad, sorry to hear that. I got the aluminet you told me about to put over the greenhouse. It helped some but this Summer was a HOT one for us in MN too. I can't afford a fancy cooling system for my little greenhouse so I hung sheets of burlap inside the greenhouse and soaked them every day with water. With the giant fan blowing through out, the evaporation provided some more cooling for the hottest parts of the day.
I also lost my Benkeimaru to the stress of heat and almost lost Maizuru.
Jason had made some crosses on my plants in June. Within 2 to 3 months all the pods turned yellow from the heat.
As long as you still have all your plants, there's always next year for them to bloom even more and better. Let's hope for a "not as hot one" next Summer.
