Thanks for the comments! In terms of pelorism, I'm not entirely sure how it works with this particular type. The fourth spur is coming directly off the top of the top petal. I'll have to look at it more closely to give you a better description.

Red Orchid, I primarily grow indoors on a windowsill and under lights. Nothing wrong with that!

In terms of hearing back from the experts, I'm still waiting to hear back. It seems a lot of people haven't heard of this happening before.

Beautiful and truly unique! Have you thought about storing the pollen?

No I haven't actually. I wouldn't know how to proceed really.

I took a closer look at the flowers again and the petals that are producing the extra spurs are not similar to the lip at all except for having a spur. We shall see what next flowering season brings!

Satomi has a Manjushage in spike listed on eBay right now. I wish someone on the Board would bid on it and win it because after looking at your pics I am tempted.

Sorry, I am quite delayed in my response. Basically, there is a chance it can happen with these types of flowers. If it does it again or is more consistent, then maybe I can buy a house with it...or two! The occurrence is very rare.

Thanks for the update. I was just thinking about this last week and wondering if you had heard anything back. Good luck with this years blooming season, hopefully it will do it again...Jean

Hi coffeecup. I was reading on Facebook about Manjushage, when I came across a link to this thread. So I clicked on the thread and came here!

Although this is an old thread, I wanted to follow up with you. Any updates on this plant? Belated congratulations on having such a great plant.

It has 3 slowly developing spikes, but nothing to show for yet. Don't worry, I'll post updates once something happens!
