At the moment my neo wishlist is... any neo! I don'y have anymore. I'd like to get Benisuzume, some bean leaved ones, a yellow one, and replace my variegated Fugaku (was a gift from Glenn)

I'd also love to have Sekai, and Shunkyuden because it's so cool looking.

Mangetsu is high on my list right now.

Variegated, red/pink flowers, and beanies are the varieties I like the most. At the Longwood Gardens show Satomi brought the $700 variegated plant (I forgot the name right now) along with the $600 pierced Neo pot that were on her website in March. I would have sold the kids for those two if I had any kids.

Satomi will be at the Shore Orchid Festival in Jersey next weekend. So we'll see what I didn't know I couldn't live without!

Cheers.
Jim

I "wish" I knew how to grow them well.

I do great with their hybrids with vandaceous plants, but tend to lose the neos.

Hi Ray, I assume you're trying to grow them in S/H? I think they do better with a winter rest. I'm not sure how to properly do that with S/H but maybe s.kallima has some tips...

They do grow slower in comparison to other types of orchids.

Try it again, Ray...this time on S/H and heat matt...and the winter rest she means less water and fertilizer on the colder months but still continue to feed and water them...only maybe every other week fertilizer but flush them every other week too...use the tall narrow pots not the shallower wide kind...the roots of Neos grow very fast...bright shade in summer and medium light in the winter

*oops sorry, you have a green house and I am a windowsill grower...hmmm but hope it still works

Sounds like Marlene has come a long way and perhaps become sort of a neo fan, herself. If you would've told her you wanted to fork out dough for a Mangetsu a few years ago, you might've gotten bonked over the head. Don't ya think?

Yes my first ever Neo (regular type) has been in S/H since 2008 and no worries. Blooms every year, grows tons of roots in and out of the tall clean plastic container I use with hydroton. (you find easily find my thread about it). It is in bud right now, 5 growths with one spike each.
No special treatment, I just keep the reserve empty for winter rest (3 months or so) and just spray occasionally. Rest of the year, lost of watering, flushing, 150 ppmN. I think it is happy

Ray;

I followed Kallima's advice and moved a wild-type in 2010 and an Amami Island in 2011 to S/H at remounding time and they have been growing wonderfully. The Amami Island is almost bigger than the parent plant now.

Cheers.

Yes she has! She hasn't come to appreciate the subtle differences between a Gekkeikan and a Gojo-fukurin; to her they're both just a variegated Neo, and I really need to get a nice Akebono to turn her around, but she does like the beanies and loves when they bloom.

Now if I can only explain why we need one with mountain tsuke.
Oh, and why my Manjushage needs a Hanakanzachi for company.

So what's on your list Tracy?

Cheers.
Jim

I will acknowledge that my last trial was before I knew anything about heat mats...
