Very unique growing technic! Everything looks to be doing very well. Any certain reason you grow this way? How often do you need to water?

I'm just not a fan of NZ sphagnum. I've tried it on its own in the past, but I think it stays too wet for too long (at least under my growing conditions). Now, since I only use a single layer of it in the clay pots, the moss dries out over the course of the day, which means that I have to water every day during the growing season--but that's okay since I only have a small collection of neofinetias and I like the level of control it gives me. The other reason is that I don't like the look of such small plants perched on top of a mountain of sphagnum; to me it just looks a little comical (but this is an opinion and I'm certainly not trying to be hypercritical of the "classic" method of potting plants of this species).

Nice collection. I also like bean leaf types and have a few including Senzai which has never bloomed for me. I hear that quite a few bean leaf types are reluctant bloomers, another non-bloomer for me is Ryokuhou ... grows well with very regular symmetrical growths but no flowers. Ootakamaru on the other hand is a very good bloomer.

As for the sphag mounds, I think I know what you mean especially when the mound is taller than the pot, which I do quite a bit in order to more easily fit the roots. However, on the whole I like this method aesthetically and it also gives me more control.

Thanks for posting.
