Hey guys,

Wanted to share my newest acquisition! Denver had its orchid show this weekend and to raise money they have a sale, too, as I imagine most societies do. Anyway, I saw this guy sitting on the bench and knew it needed to be mine. I didn't count the number of fans but there are a ton. It's blooming now, too. The potting medium is charcoal and bark... What you see here is just my attempt to keep it a bit more comfortable in my dry environment. There is no standing water, so no worry of rot, and it's just temporary anyway. The hydroton is just to keep the humidity up.

I got this baby for 30 dollars... Score!

I should teach you to drill holes on glass so you dont have to repot...I think that plant will be happy in hydroton just as it would be in moss...you did good! $30 for a large specimen like that is a steal! Thats a lot of clump there...and its in bloom...enjoy the fragrant jasmine smell...

Hehe thanks. The pot is temporary until I find one perfect for it. It is simply plunked right into the glass and the sides filled with hydroton. Like Patrick said, I should drill holes for drainage but it's just temporary.

Nice purchase! These grow quite fast so you'll have a mega specimen in a couple of years!

Nice plant indeed!
You should make sure not to pot it too low in the hydroton (even temporarely, it may cause rot at the base of the plant) It is better usually to see the base of the leaf fans slightly above the hydroton
