Neostylis Lou Sneary Bluebird
I acquired this plant in March. It was not blooming but had what looked to be the stub of an old flower spike.
I repotted it and it grew 3-4 leaves over the summer. I noticed the spike in Mid-September. The first flower opened on October 20.

HI Goatherder:
Very beautiful. I love all of the Neofinetia hybrids.
After having seen your plant in bloom,
I checked my plant that I just acquired in the spring and it too is spiking. I have Neostylis Lou Sneary 'Lea' that makes the beginning of buds about four times during the summer that all dry up and in early fall it finally blooms with two spikes. It has to be an environmental thing but I have not been able to determine which of the environmental things it is. I will post a picture when the buds open.

What a beaut. I have one of these as well - and it started blooming at the same time. All but two buds are open at this point and it's one of the few in my house that are in bloom right now so it's getting lots of attention! I might be crazy, but I feel like it's subtly fragrant when it's in the sunlight. Does yours have scent? I liked it so much I went out and got another Neost. to keep it company. Neost. Pinky 'Stary Night'. I think it is spiking too!
Thanks for sharing.

Neostylus Lou Sneary
Jerry: I would not be surprised if it is the heat that has affected the blooming of your Neo. I have had problems with all my Vanda family plants this year due to the extremely high temps.
My Aerides Robsan's Gem put out three spikes, two of which dried up. The third started opening with about four flowers then the next six or seven dried up. The next three or four bloomed and so on. A Vanda I bought in spike dried up just a few days after I got it. A Rhynchostylus put out a spike the promptly dried up. But my Neo. did bloom nicely. Go figure.

OMG - I can't WAIT for mine to spike! That is absolutely amazing!!! I knew there was a reason why I bought this one!!! LOL...
fotofashion - that is good to know about the heat because my Lous Sneary has not done anything;.l Not a single spike I have seen, lol... I was starting to wonder if it was just my culture or the heat. I still suspect my culture though given that I have not seen any spikes.
I've also been checking my two new Vanda's for spikes (one obviously had them before given the dead cut off spikes they left in place when shipped). Nothing on them either while so many others have posted pics of them.
BTW, sorry for hijacking the thread with my own problems with culture.

I have heard that these are supposed to be fragrant, but I have not noted any fragrance with mine, yet, but I hope I will.

Neostylus Lou Sneary
My Neostylus Lou Sneary is fragrant, but not 24/7. That is normal with a lot of orchids. You will just have to sniff at it at different times of the day to find out when.

Thanks to all for the kind words. This is my first year trying to grow orchids, so any small success is very exciting. I spend a lot of time on the Orchid Board trying to learn and see what else is going on.
