What a fabulous display of blossoms! Sadly, my season seems to be over for my neo's flowering but who knows, I may get some more yet. Very well grown there!

How can I resist the temptation to buy one of these when I see that display?? I keep telling myself I don't have the room or the time or the money. Good growing! Absolutely gorgeous..

Beautiful display! Congratulations.
Your plant inspired me to try semi-hydro again with a fan of my typical form and I got my first bloom this summer.
Cheers.

Thank you all for the kind comments
Jim, I am glad you tried successfully one neo in S/H. Maybe I am just lucky, but I think this way of growing is great for neofinetia because it loves so much air at the roots, and the pellets provide a lot of air circulation along with the moisture.
Wintering has been quite easy until now , I just drain the pot completely and just spray the plant on warm days but no watering the pellets for 3 months.
Camille, you should try one again, the great thing about S/H is that you can go away for weeks without the worry of having someone to come water it ! Litterally I leave it 4 to 5 weeks sometimes, with no watering and it still grows very well. I am sure you can find a nice little one from Greeny pottery store

I was looking at the Greeny Pottery website within 10 minutes of posting last night! But I'm going to wait until after a show early october before ordering, I might be able to get a standard one there. Might try S/H, I didn't like the traditional sphag mound method at all. I actually lost the 3 of mine when I mailed part (15 plants) of my collection to someone to orchid sit while I was in the US for 5 months. Package got lost, even with track and trace.

Actually, I did 2 different plants in S/H. The regular wild type and Amami Island. I have them on an east facing deck that gets filtered sun in the morning. The thing I really like about the two in S/H is that I truely don't think they can be overwatered. I water/fertilise them every couple of days and lately, between hurricane Irene and tropical storm Lee, they have gotten over 20 inches of rain in 14 consecutive days with no ill effects.
Cheers.

Yes, it's getting a little tiresome. Upriver from me in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area and Harrisburg, they are evecuating people because the water is suppoesed to reach the top of the 42 foot (13 metre) levee. latest numbers are 120,000 plus being evaced.
I'm sure the Neos feel right at home. Like it's the monsoon!
Cheers.
