this is the first time ive heard of this species as well! i always read the falcata was the only species of neo.

@ help - me too - I had always read (thought?) falcata was the sole species in the genus Neofinetia

Don't really know if it has a fragrancy or not. since this is the first flowering, the spike only had three flowers and I don't smell anything.

As far as species, there are supposed to be three species of Neo; falcata, richardsiana, and xichangnensis, although some people now suspect that xchangnensis is a variation of richardsiana. The botany journals and scientific papers I've read have virtually nothing on either. I'm hoping someone does some DNA analysis and solves this soon.

All Neofinetias have pretty much the same scent. you might have to wait a day or two before you can smell it, and they're more fragrant at night.

Thanks Naoki. It was Tracy's Sedirea that inspired me to get some. I thought a Chinese Neo has got to live in a Chinese pot.

Right. I've also noticed they seem to be more fragrant the evening after they'e watered although it may just be coincidence. I'm not expecting a lot though because the plant and the flowers are so small as this is it's first blooming. I'm also suffering a bit from allergies this year so my sense of smell has not been what it usually is. My Phal. violacea var. Sumatra has been blooming like a fool and I can't smell a thing. My wife just throws up her arms saying "How can you not smell it? I can smell it as soon as I walk into the house!" (Sigh)

Here's a link to the botanic description of the three species for those who may be interested. The principal difference between them is the length of the spur and the shape of the sepal tips.
