Talking Neostylis Lou Sneary Bluebird

This is my first time blooming this guy. I purchased him out of bloom from Incredible Orchids and we had a rough start because I didn't quite know what medium and how to grow this hybrid.

I finally plopped him in s/h and started really watering and misting and he took off. He likes high humidity and lots of light and doesn't mind being next to the outside wall where there is sometimes a bit of a chill (sometimes hits 54 for a few hours at night)

Pic is really bad, sorry.

Good for you! Congrats on getting it to bloom under your care. Its always satisfying to get a plant to that point so you know you're giving it what it wants and needs.

Good to know its doing so well in s/h. I have mine growing in a vase and it seems to be enjoying it! I like the look of the roots hanging down.

good growing Melissa! I too had some trouble with mine, but I seemed to have righted it, tho I am afraid I will need to wait some time before it's likely to bloom. I actually now have two small ones, as it "self-divided" from rot

Congrats! I've got one of these, and had similar issues with the culture. Mine's currently in a clay pot with root vents in my cool tank, under lights and seems to be pretty happy.

Well done Melissa! This hybrid does seem to like cool temps.

Awesome job! I am just now trying that particular one myself and have likewise found that it does like an ample amount of water. I personally tend to water it every 1 to 2 days. I have it in a fresh mixture of lava rock, wood bark, and peat chunks. I will reduce watering once the wood bark and peat chunks start holding more water. S/H would do similar I would believe.

Anyway, congrats on your success!

Beautiful! This one has been on my wish list a long time ... always wanted one of these but haven't managed to find a seller in Europe.
Although reading this post my conditions are more I/W... ? so I'm not so sure anymore?..Anyone growing & flowering in 'warmer conditions"?
thanks for posting Melissa & Congrats for making it happy and flowering!!!

I'm growing it in intermediate conditions, though I do plan on taking it outside during the summer since it gets towards 100F and higher here.

Also, I noticed that I started loosing roots on mine so I repotted in only lava rock (large pieces) this time and it has responded nicely. Five new roots starting!
