Nice rig outside on your video. Sometimes simple is best. Love the little bench.

This is my second full season and I'm still on the learning curve. After loosing my Tamakongo to root-rot which Glenn-san so graciously replaced, I have been skittish about over watering and I've probably been keeping them too dry. So growth has been very slow.

This winter's challenge will be chilling them enough to induce blooms. That's a problem with newer homes and central heat and air. You can't shut off heat and close doors in unused rooms like older homes.

Mine currently reside in the breakfast nook on an old sewing machine table at an east-facing window. Might have to move them to the guest room at a southern window, close the vents and the door, crack a window and hope for the best.

Cheers.
Jim

I wasn't aware how much the colder temps help them. Basically I have been babying all my orchids too much. This winter I am going to let them stay outside on nights that are in the 40s and 50s. Our winters aren't completely dry air either, there is still some humidity unless we have a very strong cold front. Will that be a problem? It often causes the temperature to feel 5 to 10 degrees lower than it actually is. What does everybody think is a safe minimum temperature?

Jen;

The best advice will be found on the sticky "Growing Neofinetia falcata in winter months" posted by "Fuukiran" (Dr. Glenn Lehr) owner of New World Orchids. It's located at the top of the Neo forum.

Cheers.
Jim

You can see on this culture sheet that they get pretty cold temps in their habitat in Japan... and I have seen pictures of Neo covered with snow in someone's garden in Japan (on another forum)

Tracy, you have a really nice set up and great collection of Neo ! The Japanese stands look nice, especially when all the spots are full
