Neofinetia falcata 'Oonami Seikai': evolution from bud to flower
After the Tougen (see other thread), here is the Oonami Seikai, very different plant, different bloom...

July 23rd : the spike 'bud' (on the left) is starting to appear at the base of the leaf (sorry bad quality, very strong crop)

Great pictures! For those who have not rebloomed or bloomed their own neos from the time they got them, these pictures help to know what to look for when a new growth is forming and you can't figure out if it is going to be a new fan or a spike! Thanks for sharing!

You are perfectly right Becca... until a few days ago, I was still not sure what the little bud on the right side would be (for several months), but it was on the plant earlier that the left one which grew into a spike . Now I am almost sure it is another spike because it is slowly becoming more round.

very cool! and definitely helpful to me - about a month or so ago I found a 'monster' neo at the garden center! It had two spent spikes on it, so I asked for, and got, a discount since it was finished blooming - it has some nubbies on some of the other fans, and I have been trying to figure out if I think they are new fans or spikes. Still not really sure, tho from your pix, perhaps they are spikes - I also recently noticed a previously un-noticed nubbie (was hidden behind another fan, which since I can now see a "stem" on, I figure must be a spike! The others haven't grown much - so I'm still not sure ...
Can't wait to see pix of yours blooming! good growing!

I have been lucky & mine flowered in june/july this year & I took a couple shots whilst trying to figure it out ...
"What do future spikes look like?" ..Just as Becca says above.
Here are a couple pics which show the growths (spike) at an even earlier stage than the above photos. Apologies the pics arn't as good...
the spike turned out to be the one on the left (with 7 flowers). The right growth is growing into an other fan.
Hope these are useful to the new to neo growing /blooming on the OB.
