Default NEO QUESTIONAIRE

hey everyone, first i will say i started out collecting neo hybrids. i loved how compact they were. the colors, the different scents etc. but 2 months ago i bought my first species neo falcata. it came un named and im assuming its just the basic type. smaller than my hybrids, cute and tiny. its just bloomed and wow, how amazing, what a scent! im definately going to get myself into trouble knowing how many variations of this species are out there. lol. also being half japanese(okinawan), i find the history behind these plants fascinating. ive started reading up on them and all the threads but what i havent seen is any sort of classifications on variation of scent for them.(which im probably drawn to most).
from what i have read, certain ones have varying scents so i thought id ask everyone if theyve noticed differences in scents with their collection(shoutenno, hisui, benisuzume, etc.) and how they describe them. itd be very interesting to hear. thanks, richard

Richard, I don't think there are any classification based on the scent.

I've heard it created a perfume made by sedirea japonica, but not Neo. It is new to me. I asked my mom to look for it for my friend, but she has not found it yet. It might have been a limited edition.

Shiseido does make a sedira based perfume as well as cymbidium. Unfortunately it is only sold in Japan and not distributed through any company in the US. Maybe we can get someone who goes to smuggle us back some?

But to answer the question for as much as I know scent varies, but mostly with strength. I have heard that some smell stronger than others, but don't know off hand which ones.

Default Neofragance

There is a book called Fragant Orchids that actually classifies fragances and divides them into different categories like. Lemon, Citrus, Jazmine etc etc.

Its a nice book. And Neofinetias rock! I think they smell Lemony something

Hahahahaha I have 28 and they all smell somehow different to me. And the hybrids also smell different. Still Neos have a particular fragance. I think sometimes lemony something, gardenia+fruity peachy, cinnamon jazmine dunno they are all awesome!
