Remounding Neofinetia (my youtube video)

It's been really quiet at the neo forum lately so I figured I'd make a video showing the moss remounding process. There are, of course, slightly different ways of doing this but this is one of the ways I was taught to do them. I find this method the easiest and fastest. For me, at least. Most of the neo fans here already know how to remound so if anybody has a different favorite method of remounding, share it with us here

I don't grow these yet, but I was really interested to watch and understand more about how they are grown. I have always been usnsure if the mound was hollow, but as you said it can depend on how humid your enviroment is.

Great job Tracy! I'm not sure if I am bold enough to go without a cavity in the center of the moss mound....I'm afraid I'll rot the heck out of the roots, but at the same time, I am watering every couple of days. Guess I need to get my tushy in gear and start my repotting and remounding for the season! Also, I just had to laugh at you dropping the neo into the bag of moss....hehe.

Nice job Tracey. It's one thing to tell someone how to do something and then there is showing. Terrific show 'n' tell. I did notice that when you took off the old moss it was rather dry. The only thing I have done different was to soak the roots after stripping away the old moss and adding the new. Very nice demo. Thanks a bunch. Maybe this will add to our growing group of Neos.

Naoki, it does look like a lot of moss. So if your neos are doing great, with less moss, you should definitely keep doing it that way.

I've accidentally dropped many of them in AND out of their mounds. They just take a lickin' and keep on tickin', hehehe.

Great point, Don! Yes, most definitely soak the roots before you start wrapping! I did not soak this one because I needed to make the video as short as possible for easier uploading. I've broken quite a few roots in the past by not soaking first, before remounding.

This year, I did something different. Once they all started showing new root growth in the early Spring, I removed the old moss and soaked the neos (entire plant) in a solution of Biogold fertilizer, before I mounded each one. I used about 8 pellets of Biogold per gallon of water. For the rest of this growing season, I'll probably just use HB-101 about once a month and see how that goes this year.

So where do you get Biogold fertilizer and HB-101? Also, what do you do with the roots that grow more horizontally then vertically like your roots are? I have lots of new root growth, but most are growing horizontally and I don't think there is any getting them into the moss mound when I remound them! I'm just glad I have roots growing!
