Neofinetia falcata (Japanese Wind orchid)
I've had this orchid for two years now and it's in great shape. It's growing on my windowsill in clay pellets that I water regularly (southern exposure). I have a hard time finding info on the flowering methods. Does anyone know what it needs and when it flowers.

I know nothing about this plant, but Botanica's Orchids suggest plenty of water during growth and reduced when growths are mature. It's a zone 9-10, or intermediate conditions and it say's nothing about a blooming period. Also try this link.

I was told that this plant likes to have much cooler nights. Mine has re-bloomed for me twice now. I keep it fairly wet all the time and allow it to have a really decent temperature drop at night.

They can actually withstand light frost. Cool, drier period in winter initiates summer blooming.

My plant is really close to the window and in the kitchen. I presume that the night temp. must drop at least a good 5 C (so probably around 15 C at night and 20 during the day) . Does anyone know if that's enough? Or should I move it at night in the garage where it's only around 5 C.

I've heard cool temps to bloom it. I haven't bloomed mine yet either.
Is yours variegated? I'd like to buy a variegated one here in Canada

Jonatan, Tin is asking if your neofinitia has white stripes down the length of its leaves. Being in Canada, I would assume yours has plain green leaves . I've never seen variegated ones for sale in our country. 15 C is probbaly still a little warm to get it to flower well. I would try to get the temp down to at least 10-12 C at night. Your 5 C room would probbaly work too!

Alright thanks. Yes indeed it's got green leaves and no white stripes. I'll try to lower the temp. and see how it goes. Thank you very much for the help.
