Neofinitea falcata "Tokunoshima"
Has anyone heard of or seen this orchid. I bought one at the WOC in Fl, it's in bloom now and looks just great but I can't find it anywhere. Here's a pic of it a few days ago it's now open all the way, thanks..... Jim.

Have not heard of it but from the name, it should have the shima (distinct bands/ stripes) variegation. I can't tell if your plant is variegated from the picture but the blooms are very nice. Good growing! |

Tokunoshima (徳之島) is the name of the island it comes from. in this case, shima means "island"(島), not stripes/silk threads(縞).
Tokunoshima is one of the Amami islands, and neos from there are commonly sold as Amami island furan. yours is a very nice specimen.

When I first read I asked my wife for the meaning and she said the same as Kip. Mind you not that I doubted Kip but my wife is Japanese so I thought I would ask. Anyway, it's a beautiful Neo. pot and all!
