Neofinetia Falcata Morph???
I have heard some kind of neos can morph into other varieties. Anyone know which kind can morph? I read the neo booklet and saw the Ryokuhounoshima...it's really unique. Is it morph from Ryokuho???

morphs are a result of changes in your growing conditions. existing growths will not change, but new growths will take on the form of the new variety. morphs are relatively minor changes. for example, a variety with marginal variegation can morph into a variety with internal variegation, or a variety with mud brown roots can morph into a variety with ruby roots. A variety without variegation can't become variegated, so Ryokuho will never turn into Ryokuhonoshima.

Sorry, Kip, I beg to differ. Jason, at Orchids Limited has a Kuro Shinjyu ( a non variegated variety) that has developed the tora fu (tiger) variegation recently. He's had the plant for several years and it was not variegated originally. I've seen it and it's very cool. Of course, these things don't happen often but it's possible.

sorry, what I meant was that a plant can't develop shima variegation. if it already has very slight shima variegation, it can become more pronounced, even on older growths, by changing the light level.

Yeah, it was, Don. I'll have to get some photos of it next time I'm at the greenhouse.

Here are some variegated neos that morph - this list is from one of our growers in Japan:
Miyakohabutae to Mihata
Amami to Misukage
Kenkokuden to Higuma Fukurin
Nishidemiyako to Manazura or Ginsekai
Gojofukurin to Gekkenkan to Tenkei
Ooemarunoshima to Mikado
Toyoden to Akebono
Higashidemiyako to Kotofukurin
There are other types that morph as well.

Bumping this up for the current neo-nut crowd! Awesome little lit hear! Anyone know what the different mutations actually are? (I.E Ginsekai is when the leaves are shorter and more upright with more rounded tips than Nishidemiyako)
