Do these morphing Neofinetia ever revert back to their original state?
Its possible, and I believe some can change back more so with certain varieties. The change back may not be completely 100% though, perhaps some fans, but not all. Its usually very unpredictable.
Morphing is a type of mutation that happens only in certain varieties as listed by Glenn. It also happens to the new growths, never in the old growth of a mutable form. In the case of Ryokuhonoshima, it came from a batch of seedlings and is a very very rare occurrence. A green variety like Ryokuho will rarely mutate because it is a stable form. That's why the mutated forms of these plants are very expensive. The mutation is like one in a few hundred thousand plants! Usually if they appear, these plants can sell upwards of $50-100K!!!!
In any case, it may take decades or more to morph in some varieties. At any rate, the chance of them to change back to original is very likely! And that is not desirable!!! The Japanese growers usually remove these growths, unless they add in sustaining the plants due to their chlorophyll.
