Do you have a copy of the 2009 chart? I would love to see it. Also, how did you get a copy of the chart each year? I don't know of any sources in the U.S. for these charts.

Raymond;
Wow!!! You do have an amazing collection, and it's clear by the size of some of your plants you've had some of them for quite a while.
Welcome to OrchidBoard.
Cheers.

Thanks, Jim.
Tracy, I do have a copy of the 2009 Fuukiran Meikan although in black-and-white only. I have not scanned it yet, I'll do it some time and send a copy to you.

It´s a very impressive collection you have, Raymond! Very nice large plants of Seikai and Tenkei Fukurin! Kinbotan looks really good too.
How long have you been growing Neofinetias?
Cheers

Old Thread Resurrected
1)Who got you into Neos or how did you get into them?
I was looking for information on Phalaenopsis gigantea on the forum and saw a thread from Jeremiah Chua regarding his Neofinetia collection and repotting in the Japanese traditional mound.
2)Why do you love them?
Over the many months of acquiring these plants, each plant was unique--leaf form, size, roots, and flowers. Their names and descriptions are also captivating.
3)Which ONE in your current collection is your absolute favorite? (yes, just ONE )
Higashidemiyako is my favorite plant.
4)If you won the lottery today and price was no issue, which ones would you MUST have?
Fukiden.
**Take some time to read some of the earlier posts in this thread. I am amazed how some posters have remained active in this subforum--DelawareJim and Tracy. Some of the comments and opinions are still relevant.

For those of you who are into these little boogers, just thought it would be interesting to find out....

I have about 10 named varieties, plus I am currently growing seedling batches from two flasks (both 'pink' breeding).
#1 Bought one from CalOrchids at a GNYOS show about 10 years ago, as I have always been into Vandaceous orchids.
#2 They produce some wonderfull small growing hybrids.
#3 My original plant, which has exceptionally large flowers.
It is an Amami Island type, but it is larger than anything I have seen elsewhere. It won't breed though, so I wonder whether it is somehow a triploid plant.
#4 I don't know the official varieties well enough to answer this one. I am suspicious of many of the colored varieties (probably not true species plants). I am still looking to obtain some of the smaller bean leaf types, for use in my breeding program.

1)Who got you into Neos or how did you get into them?
Like Philip my first was Neostylis Lou Sneary which I picked up in 2004 and I still have I just loved the very dark blue flowers. But over the years I was on the fence about getting into the species until I was visiting with our very own Becca last winter while looking at her plants nudged me over the edge. It wasn't until this last summer that picked up my first species Otomemaru. After that I was hooked.
2)Why do you love them?
There are just so many with different features that you really just can not have just one. They do not take up much space. Even my Lou Sneary which I've had for 9 years only took up about 1.5 cubic feet of space before I divided it. And finally they have a nice fragrance notl as strong as my forvite Cattleya
3)Which ONE in your current collection is your absolute favorite?
The ONLY way to be all inclusive as a single favorite would be to have a single plant with all you favorite features. But I have not come across such a plant yet.
For hands down it would be Manjushage. Well at least until my Otomemaru blooms gets big enough to bloom. For the rest of the plant would be my Orihime but that will soon change once my Youmeiden arrives.
4)If you won the lottery today and price was no issue, which ones would you MUST have?
Hanakanzashi(can get it eventually without winning the lottery) and to search ONE fuukiran with ALL of my favorite features if there is such a plant out there.

Why do you grow Neofinetia falcata?
I took my own advice and read all of the postings. A couple of the responders bought mounted Neofinetia from Andy's Orchids. I have bought my one and only mounted Neofinetia from Andy's too. I posted a picture of it several months ago. Thanks to s.kallima's sharp eyes, we determined that my mounted plant was NOT an Oonamiseikai.
A lot of the people who posted are listed as "banned". This is probably a poor designation as many of these folks were very active but perhaps banned since they have not posted?
It may seem that Neofinetia were challenging to acquire back then. Today, it doesn't seem as difficult and the plants are not as expensive, right? I hope people will continue to update this thread with their own story.

I've never seen anyone banned beacuse they have not posted in a long time.
The only people that I've seen banned where spammers, dissagreements that got out of control or just down right rude.
I'm sure that one of our friendly Mods will add if I left something out.
