Neofinetia purchase - Orchid Board

Ok, so as I was walking thru the orchid show in homestead this weekend, after taking a ton of pictures, I returned to this Neofinetia. I thought it was really cool and the lady said I could grow it outdoors with no problem. "keep it in the shade like a phal". All I know about it is I like it, a lot. So any tips from you guys would be greatly appreciated cause I am a little worried since I've never tried one of these.

Very, very cool. I like the way it is potted in a basket. I may do this with one of mine. Just water fairly often. Shouldn't get too dry as it has no water storage except the roots and leaves (no pseudobulbs.)

I know you mentioned lava rocks, but in the pictures the medium looks more like tree fern fiber chunks...is it really lava rocks?

Is this a standard white Neo or something else?

Thanks for the links Susanne. So apparantly there should be another name after falcata since apparantly there is a world of variety.
Becca maybe they are fiber chunks, I need to take a closer look.

I have two of these...one has a cultivar name and one doesn't

Swamper, mine are in really bright light, but please remember that in Miami, shade is brighter than our full sun

So I would leave it somewhere under a tree until you can determine how much light it will tolerate. Aim for reddish margins of the leaves - not full red leaves. I have one in my orchidarium mounted and it's right smack under the t5 lights - very bright. It has the reddish edges and little red speckle on the leaves. Even the root tips are reddish. Mine is a falcata as well. I also have three cultivars in Japanese Neo pots (got them from New World Orchids.) The mounted one came from Andy's Orchids.

Ok Ross thanks, I did put it under a tree, it would get a little bit of our morning sun, maybe 1-2 hours. I'll be keeping an eye on it to adjust as needed.
