Fantastic plant Swamper! I have 5 Neos (and am probably going to add a couple soon ) And they seem to be a fairly easy plant to grow. Again, all my orchids grow in the kitchen, my neos are sitting around the sink, and either get a soak every 4 days.... or mist every day... I kind of treat them like a vanda. They seem to like it. None of mine are as big as yours, so congrats on that! I have mine in shultz bark mix, so I think they can take more waterings. If you decide to go the moss ball route, like many of our Neo people, they can be watered once a week (or at least that's what mine did, with occasional mistings)

I have one in a wood basket with some moss, I treat it like a vanda, but it needs a little less light than the vandas. I have it under the shade cloth and the vanda right at the edge of the shade cloth, and it's got the red speckles.

Hey Joe..that's a healthy looking Neo there.

I've got my little guy growing right along with my vandas; same light, water and fertilizer. It's in a wood basket like yours, with a small chunck of tree feern bark inside. It has grown quite a bit since I got it in May 07, but no blooms yet. I have been told to cut back on the water in the winter, and to NOT protect it from our cooler nights here in Naples like I do with the vandas when the temps drop below 50. I'm planning on implementing these cultural changes this year, and hopefully it will bloom next year, provided it is big enough. I will post a pic tomorrow.

Hey Joe,

Here are 3 pics of my Neof. falcata that I purchased in May 07. When I got it, it was bare root and had 3 small fans, measuring about 1 1/2 inches. As you can tell, it has grown quite well. It has a total of 10 fans now and is 3 1/2 x 3 inches...and lots of roots! I just wanted to show you that my growing conditions have worked well.

Becca you were right it is tree fern bark inside there. I don't tknow where I got the lava rocks from.
David those are awesome. I love seeing those roots growing crazy like that.
ACM one of mine just bloomed this morning so I don't know yet what they smell like but I will try to get a wiff tonite LOL

Hi Becca,

I wired the little guy to a small chunk of tree fern, and then wired that into the 4 inch basket. I thought that the tree fern chunk would hold a little extra moisture during the hot summer days here. I guess the plant loved the idea.
