In spike this time of year? - Orchid Board

Isn't it to late in the year for a Neo to be in spike?
I have a Neofinetia Falcata x Darwinara charm (Rainbow) that has a new spike beginning to form. I was told this one has the Benihime flower color.

Hi Lucky Grower...congrats on your new spike!

While it is a little late in the year for a Neo. to be blooming, what you have here is a Neo x Darwinara, which is a Darwinara: DARWINARA (Dar.) = Ascocentrum × Neofinetia × Rhynchostylis × Vanda.

I have a Dar. that blooms at all times of the year because of the influence they get from the four different genus that go into them.

Enjoy your spike/blooms! I would love to see pics when they grow out.

You sure are a 'Lucky Grower'. I need to talk to my Darwinara plants, tell them it is OK to bloom at this time of the year. Marilyn

Yep, seems like they can bloom in the spring and fall.

I've got several Neos and Neo hybrids in spike or bud!

Isn't it wonderful?

Really? That's good news then. I had given up on seeing some spikes on my Neos this year! Time to go inspect them.

One of mine just started spiking as well (Tamakongo). Seems to take forever, though. The nubbin has been sitting there for last 3-4 weeks with no obvious signs of growth.

Ummm...you guys got me thinking about my little Neo. I checked it today but alas, there are still no spikes...I'm very confident for next year though, after implementing some changes in how I have been growing it over this coming winter season.

One more opportunity to be hopelessly optimistic.

I got a Neo at the begnning of the summer. It had strong growth all summer but no spike. Low and behold I look at the plant the other day and there is, at least what I think is a spike. Lets all hope, that would be a great way to end the summer. I will post pictures if and when it happends.
