2 different colors of Neostylis

Hi Jorch....your Neost. Lou Snearys look great. I have noticed a lot of varience in the color of this mini vandaceous hybrid. Here is the one I have blooming now...kind of a lavender-pink.

Excellent post showing the differences in the Lou Snearys. I have one Lou Sneary, and I am expecting it to look like your 'violet' photo Jorch, but mine hasn't flowered yet, so it could be any thing. I will definitely post photos when it does.

This raises the point that if you really do want a particular colour, you either need to buy the plant in flower, or find one of the named clones of this grex.

I really like both of these. I have recently bought several Neostylis, Darwinara, and Ascofinetia. They seem to be easy to grow and are quite forgiving about their growing conditions. I'm still a bit frightened with straight Neo's. I need a bit more experience to feel comfortable growing them.

My neo crosses are all planted with the regular potting mix. Possibly I should try one of my Neo's like that instead of the spag. I still don't have enough confidence in my growing ability.

Marilyn, for me, straight Neos grow better than the hybrids. I have the Neostylis, Darwinara and Vandofinetia side by side in the same condition, only the Neostylis 'violet' spike this year. I am still waiting for the others to put out a spike. The straight neos, on the other hand, bloom regularly for me. mm...

It's so painful to lose beautiful orchids but it's a double whammy when they can be so expensive! It is a bit scary.

Try the bark chips with a moss topping on the standard form first. And I really do think you need that Juliana grow rack and just add the T5 lights. Works like a charm.

Build up your confidence and then when you feel ready jump in! Cause I know you're going to do great! And you've got a lot of friends who are here to help if you have any concerns.
