No, not Shutenkaku - I wouldn't have recommended it to you if it were. I know how you feel about the tiger stripey ones. Its Amanogawa that has those weird 'spots'....

Not my fault! Honest! Its the only one that I got - and I haven't sold it yet.... I haven't noticed any super coloured roots on it yet though.... If I did, I would have bought it for myself!!

Shannan and Ramon: Out of curiousity, where on earth do you get all those neos?? Are they all from NWO? I get the impression that you are constantly getting more, even when Glenn is not in Europe!

Glenn left plants with me here - I think I sent you a PM about it a while ago, but maybe when we were talking about it in a thread here you were away on holiday? (That's the only thing I can think of...)
Anyway, I've got a nice selection of NWO plants here - if you need to scratch a Neo itch!! LOL!

Oh, I remember that!!! I was really busy back then, and it slipped my mind. There was one I wanted to contact you about, but I can remember which. I will try to resist the Neo itch a while (but I'm sure I'm going to give in at one point or another!

I warn you Camille... if you do it (contact Shannan for one only one single plant)... you will end up with many of them look at me LOL
no, really, Shannan is doinggreat with the plants, and every time I come to her with a request, we discuss for a long time about the different options, and as always, I end up with different plants as originally planned, and also with more than originally plant... I think that's exactly what I like the most from Shannan
(and she really knows, what I like in Neos terms... )

Shorter version - before the kitten comes back to play.... is there a list of the ones with ruby red roots (as opposed to just red)? I have some here that are definitely red (Ramón you have one - Shutenkaku had nice red roots this summer when it was in growth) like Amanogawa - though I don't really like the plant itself because the tiger striping looks like the leaves are damaged. It is a big plant, though, as big or bigger than the Amami Island types.
I have an Akebono here (yes, singular, just one). Though the variegation is not anywhere as nice and consistent as LinhT's.
Is there a list of ones with the ruby red tips?

Yes, Shannan. However, the only book I know of is one offered by Seed Engai. I believe they were selling them on ebay under the seller name Japanese Orchids but I checked a few weeks ago and didn't find them there anymore. I think Mike (luckygrower) has one of those catalogs. I'm going to OL to find my 1st phrag and paph on Friday so I can ask Neo Jedi Master if there are any other books listing the root type for each variety.

The following is a list of ruby root plants in Seed Engei's book.
Getsuden
Hakubotan
Higuma
Hakuhou
Hakuunkaku
Houmeiden
Kinbotan
Omiwatari
Hokage
There may be more but these are the only ones specificly listed as having ruby roots.
Mike
If my memory serves me someone asked how many Fukiran were listed in this catalog, well I counted 158 and each has a picture with breif description.

Super! Thanks so much for taking the time to list them, Mike. There are more but I'll have to go through the 315 in my book again to find some more.

Camille, my Houmeiden is a pretty small plant so it wasn't as expensive. I can't afford a big one either. I think the price on the NWO website is for 1 growths that have a little bigger leaf span.

I just LOVE the ruby root tips, just think that is such an appealing feature! Soo cool, to now know some of the names of the varieties that have it! Thanks, Mike!
Camille, if you want a coolio Neo, get it from Shannan. . .she's hit the motherload and has all the most desirable ones in her care and is within shipping distance! You'll love whatever she tells you, you've got to have. roflolol
I have so many Neos on my wish list. . .trying not to hear . . .Shunkyudan and Tennyono-Hai and Seikai calling to me.
At the moment, I am also really wanting to try my hand with a couple of new Paphs! I just bought a small moquettianum seedling. I just think the blooms are sooo cute.
And I really want to get a very nice variety of the Paph. tigrinum soon too. Where should I get one? I'd like a good one but not a super super expensive one.
I got kind of encouraged with my Paph seedlings! My little micranthum seedling is doing super well and also so is my delanatii. I've got one for sure, but possibly two, Paph noids in bud. AND my Chrysippus seedling is starting to toughen up and grow. It's got a new leaf emerging!
I just love orchids!
