The advice on the culture sheet from New World Orchids says:
Not necessary, but preferred... A good drop in temps at night would certainly help if daytime temps were high, I think.
This is all sounding better and better...I'm sitting here rubbing my hands together thinking about all the blooms I'll have next year... I'm hopelessly hopeful!
These are really adaptable, tough little plants! If I could have dreamt up the perfect orchid - this would have been it. Not too fussy, easy to grow on a windowsill, small enough that you can have multiples and not run out of space, a divine fragrance, variegated leaves, different flower forms and colours... what more could you ask for from one plant species?!
Sooooo, it would be okay to put them in the fridge at night and then move them to their regular location during the day? I'm a little slow today, sorry! Otherwise I can't think of any other way to get my temps that low at night.
I've never thought of putting them in the fridge! That's probably because my fridge doesn't have those fancy fruit-drawer to keep the plants fresh and crisp
but yes, night temperature is most important. I kept my neos around 5 - 8 degrees celcius at night, I even opened the window slightly at night for the whole winter to keep temperature that low.. and they all bloom this year!
