Well one thing I have learned since joining the OB is that everyones growing conditions and watering habits are different and each of us has to adjust to make it work, I have been lucky with the Neo as it seems to fit right in with my habit.
LinhT, I understand what you mean by the cost as I have lost quite a few expensive orchids by not adjusting fast enough to save them.
I grow my Neo's in my north facing sun room with the ceiling fans running 24/7, the humidity averages 40%,this dry's the moss crispy to the touch in about 4 days, I the drench them in RO water, all my pots have the void in the middle of the moss.

Lucky, you got some new neos recently, right? Hope you're enjoying them and they're doing well for you. That's interesting that you can grow them in the north facing sun room. You must have light coming from every angle in that room. I stopped "drenching" because the weight from all the water was making the moss collapse inward and the cavity was becoming non existent. Maybe you don't have that problem since yours dries out much faster.

I checked my one neo that is potted traditional style and it does have the cavity in the center...I poked my finger in from the bottom up and felt some roots in their too!

I do have just one other question....so for those who let the moss dry out and get crispy on the outside between waterings....do you not have problems with the new leaves turning yellow brown and dying? I thought that maybe it was from me letting them get to dry...but they never really got that dry...that is what stumped me.

Becca, if you had your Neos in your tank, I couldn't imagine them getting too dry. With those of us growing them on windowsills, when the moss is crispy on the outside, it is probably still slightly damp on the inside, because it dries out faster.

Your Neos look super mounted like you've done - I wouldn't change anything about them. They look really happy and it suits your growing environment.

I HAVE had a few leaves turn, yellow then brown then dry up and fall off but these were always leaves on the very bottom of the plant. Also, it only happened in 2 situations.
1)a few rotted roots from overwatering lots of moss mushed together (no more cavity in the moss ball)
2)a fat aerial root or new fan growing right above the bottom leaf, seems to push that bottom leaf out of the way

I think if I was lucky enough to have an orchidarium, I'd prefer to grow my neos on mounts too. With that constant high humidity, I would think they would love it as long as there's lots of air flow and enough light. Besides, like shakkai said, they look very cool on the mounts!

Good memory, yes I did purchase 2 new Neo's and here are the picture's, I have really found an affection for Neo's especially the varigated variety.

Hi all,
With all this talk of Neo's this year ..
I finally got a 'Falcata' in april. It's mounted on cork and I keep it in a big empty water bottle(18l) filled with Leca and it's on the floor in front of a west facing sliding door.
This weekend I put it onto a bigger piece of cork as the roots had outgrown the length of my cork. Since I have had it shes put out 2 new leaves and 2 new growths at the base... I water every 3/5 days when the moss gets 'crunchy' on the outside..I also open the window and the bottle especially just after watering....
Apologies for the hijack ! It's all this neo talk.....
