Potting Neos

Can someone explain to me why Neos are potted up like so many people have them being very high up out of the pot? Do they have alot of roots and are hard to fit them in the pot, does this help with air circulation? I have never seen one in person so I have no idea what they are like. Any desciptions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm not an expert but have both catts and phals...catts need alot more light than phals, they need to thouroughly dry out between waterings.....just my 2cents ....

Jenn, it is recommended to ensure that the base of the Neo is above the rim of the pot - this helps to ensure that it doesn't rot. Neos like lots of air around their root - just like Vandas so - and many of the Neos that you see potted in the traditional way with moss are hollow in the middle of the moss to allow more air to the roots. I have some Neos that have really, really long roots, but not all. But even the ones without the really long roots are potted with plenty of space for the roots to grow into.

Thank you. I kind of had the right idea, but you both definitely cleared it up for me. I will have to try it one day when I have one of my own. I really think they are pretty so I am sure it won't be long. Then I will have lots more questions! Thank you again!
