Becca, I thought all your mounted neos were doing well. Wasn't it just the one you had still in the moss mound that you had trouble with?

No actually the one that was still in the moss mound is doing well....the others were in the moss mounds and were not doing well because I was rotting there roots so I mounted them. They seemed to be doing ok for a bit....but I think I had to much moss on one of the mounts and ended up having some more rotted roots.....so I trimmed those away and pulled some of the moss away from the roots in hopes it would help things....I have since gone on vacation and left them with an orchid sitter so I have no idea what there status is...lol. When I took them to the orchid sitters, I was still having problems with the newest leafs turning yellow and then browning.....they seemed to be ok for a while....but I think the key word was seemed...lol. What would the signs on to warm of temps be?

LOL!!!! I like your names better. You need to rename all my neos. I'm going to create a new chart called the Gweniran Meikan.
Gweniran Meikan. . .OMG! I LOVE it!!!

Think I am gonna have to snatch that title for my very own.

"Okay, so what I want to photograph then, as a distinguishing feature, is the tsuke? That's the part that has so many variations. The jiku is basically just where the leaves attach to the stem. . .not so interesting."
Actually, just looking at my Sekai - the jiku is reddish in colour, which makes the shape of the tsuke stand out a lot more... so sometimes its the combination that is really interesting. (I know, I know.... I'll try to get photos later today after work!! )

I'm not positive but if it's your new growth that's yellowing, maybe it is the temps. Is your moss ball one still in the orchidarium too?

Yep still in the orchidarium and seems to be as happy as a bug...not sure why I didn't rot some of the roots off of that one like I did with the others. It isn't just the new growths that turn yellow and then brown....it is also the newest leaves, some times a brand new leaf on an older growth turns yellow and then brown as well. I am being careful not to get water splashed on the leaves as I thought it could have been from that originally. Maybe it has something to do with the temps and with the fact that they lost quite a few roots?

I've been gone a couple of days and everyone is Neo crazy, but I have not been totaly idle. I've been doing a little research into finding book's and articles on Neo's in english. I've found 2 very good articles that give indepth info on most aspects of Neo culture.
The one that most of us has heard of or are seeking is the article in Orchid Digest vol.70-2 written by Jason Fisher the second one that I found, totally by accident, is also in Orchid Digest, it is in vol.68-3, written by
Thomas Joseph Mulhollan,M.D.
Both articles have excellent photo's

I'm assuming Jason is Jason Fischer? Who is Glenn if I may ask?

I've recently become addicted to Neos and am trying to find reliable sources of good quality plants here in the US.

Seikai is an awesome plant and I love learning the history that it's been kept since the Edo period.

Thanks.

Cheers.
