Don, most of my plants are not potted in the 'traditional' way (with the moss mound). Mine are in moss in ceramic pots made for us by a potter who specialised in bonsai pots (until Gwen talked him into making pots specially for the orchids as well!). You can see them at

Tracy has her's potted in the traditional manner with the moss mound. Sculpting the moss mound is an art in itself! The roots of the plant are ideally surrounded by one layer of moss over the top, and one layer of moss underneath, with an open space through the middle of the pot so that air circulation is good. With so much moss 'on top' of the pot, you get a lot of nice air circulation all around.
