Yay! Thanks for posting a pic of your grow area, Shakkai! Looks very nice. What's the tora-fu one you have near the middle? Did Glenn leave you any bean leaf ones?

Hi Lin, thanks very much! The yellow tiger stripe one is a Hanagoromo - you mean that one? Its gotten much better colouring being right next to the window.
Yes, Glenn left some bean leaf ones - I just haven't bought any yet for my own collection. Thinking about Suikuden, though.... any recommendations?

Ah, Hanagoromo is a beauty! I think you should go for Suikaden. It has nice, consistent growth. I got mine as a multigrowth about 2 months ago and since then it's pushed out 9 or 10 new roots and 3 new growths (most likely fans). Mine doesn't look like it's ever bloomed before because I examined it closely and no old spikes from any leaf bases. From what I remember, you're a fan of variegation too (like me) so how about Kinkujaku (variegated bean leaf)?
Here's a pic of my Suikaden and Kinkujaku. Sorry for the blurriness, my camera sucks. I don't think you'll regret these Shakkai. Take the plunge!

Really lovely! Is that a Kisyu Sekko in the background there? That's the other tiger stripe that I have.
Yes, I'm in love with the variegated ones... probably too late to add the Kinkujaku this year, Glenn is already on his way to the UK with more plants! But I'll be posting in a couple of days about my newest additions!

Thanks shakkai...nope, I don't have Kisyu Sekko. My tiger stripe in the background is Setsuzan. It's also been a good grower for me. Each spike has only 3 or 4 buds but it's been nice enough to give me 3 spikes plus 2 more emerging.
What!? Glenn's gonna leave more neos in your care? You lucky girl Can't wait to see the new family members...

Ah, Setsuzan... yes, that is on my list to get.
I've seen quite a lot of interest in Neos (and other Japanese orchids) and the more varieties available here, the more interest there seems to be... its a fantastic thing, I think, and anything that I can do to help that I will do. (Yes, I'm one lucky girl!! )
Hopefully, these will be the new family members:
Seiryujishi, Hoshiguruma, Syunkyuden, Taiyoden, and Tosabeni.

Shannon, in the picture you took of the windowsill, what is that one mounted orchid that looks all fuzzy? My first thought was SNOW MOLD! But then I realized that one is supposed to look like that (I think?). I am just obsessed with my own battles so I assume everyone has them! So...what is that intriguing plant?

Shakkai,
I've never heard of Syunkyuden, what does that one look like? I have heard of one called Shunkyuden though, it's the one with the peloric flowers. I have both Shunkyuden and Hoshiguruma. I've never seen Tosabeni either so very curious about what that one is like.
Was it you who was looking for a copy of the Orchid Digest with the neo article from 2006? I can't remember who was asking about it.....

Shakkai,
Are you going to add lights for them in the winter?? My last winter here in MN....was blah! I think I had 5 sunny days the whole season. Do you know how much light you get through that window? Ever measured it with a light meter? I'm so worried about mine not getting enough light next winter and not growing/blooming properly next season...
