Default Neofinetia Hong-il

Just received from Barampung. Referred to as Hong-il on website but tag reference was Hongil. Which is correct?

Bean leaf with red flowers, something I have heard is not that common. Any info on parentage would be of interest. It is not listed on Hakumin's list of pure neos with red flowers but that might be because it was too recent to be included or it might be a hybrid. It does have white lips so it might be pure.

The attractive leaves are thick and wide with strong anthocyanin. Equally attractive are the extremely thick silvery velamen coated roots.

The picture with flowers was from Barampung's website, and the other picture taken by me after receipt and potting.

If I bloom it, I will post a photo in this thread.

Hyphenation used in Japanese and Korean romanization is optional and when it's used, it's mainly to encourage proper pronunciation or to indicate the stems in a compound word. With or without the hyphen, both are correct.

Full parentage unknown. Has some Raizan in there somewhere.

Anticipation. Not what I had expected but so far really like it. Now hoping for a Yubae color scheme. Plants with many ancestors can result in differences in outcome. Will keep posted.

Since I received plant only one and one half months ago, I am certainly not taking credit for initiating the spiking but only credit for careful repotting and care so as not to abort the process.

Default Problem Plant

Has anyone ever succeeded with this variety? Both spikes resulted in buds that never opened.

I am ready to discard the plant as it is not worth the space or my care.

Don't bother asking me for the plant as I avoid the post office do to COVID.

You don't have to go to the post office to ship. You can do everything online and have them pick it up at your home. Change your mind? Give me a buzz.

Maybe you should give it more of a chance? Seems a bit hasty to ditch a plant based on something that happened once, and on a very recent plant. Did the buds blast, or simply never open?

I would give it another year (especially if the only alternative is the compost heap), it could be that it wasn't fully adjusted yet after all its international travels.

Camille,

Buds did not blast, only did not open. I think you are correct in advising me to give it one more year. It has been thru a lot , not just the international travel but the change in growing medium.
