More Neos...
I love the classic white Neofinetia falcata flowers, but I also have a soft spot for other variants. Many experts are pretty sure that there's another species in there 'way back in history, but there aren't records of hybridizing... so they're Neofinetia falcata now . This year, my pink ones have bloomed ahead of all the white ones (lots of buds, though). My apologies for any errors on the variety names.

Great plants. I agree with your statement about the plants' possible provenance.

Had to go out and count (but gave me a chance to savor fragrance of those, and also Brassavola nodosa that's blooming now... nighttime is when both are at their best)
5 or 6 fans, can't quite tell which since they're really close together. A couple of the white Neos are bigger, but still in bud. The species is pretty happy here... and I did inherit some pretty big ones when their grower passed on. And this is their bloom season. Other people seem to get flowers at different times, mine are always in July or thereabouts.

I’m in awe
They are happy here too. I have one (two actually, because Hausermann is the best and it was a potted double)
I might be getting hooked. They are like tiny vandas that I can mount on cool stuff!!! Hahaha I am such a child.

They ARE tiny Vandas, according to the taxonomic powers-that-be ... Sort of like a Great Dane and a Chihuahua are both dogs. I'm not changing my tags...

Benisuzume was the name given to a batch of seedlings from a selfed Shinryuko.
Shinryuko is recorded to have been found in the wild in Yamaguchi prefecture, and Koukakuden is recorded to have been found in the wild in Kochi prefecture in a town named Ochi by Toshihiro Shimoyagawa.
So, going by the records of them having been found in the wild, if they were hybrids, they would have to be natural hybrids. And given the lack of other hybridizable species native to the area, and the difficulties of such a hybrid then backcrossing naturally to attain this form, this seems rather impossible.
In terms of pink flowered neos in general, there are records of pink flowered neos going back before the introduction sterile seed culture.
In any case, both are accepted as pure neo by the Korean and Japanese publications and authorities, and anyone researching the physical characteristics, breeding habits and history of the species and its hybrids has pretty much come to the same conclusion.

I keep looking at Neofinetia falcatas online and I think I am going to have to purchase one.
